Anatomy of Yoga

Come spend a few hours learning about the anatomy of your body and how that knowledge can inform your physical yoga practice. We will go beyond the basics in discussing your bone structure and personalize the information so that you can see the impact of your individual anatomy on your yoga practice. Key muscles and actions will be discussed in order to help the student be more aware of how to be most effective and efficient in their physical practice, as well as how to minimize the chance of injury. By working with the principles of biomechanics and how they apply to your individual anatomical variation, your ability to self-correct grows and you begin to refine your physical practice.
Week 1 will focus on the anatomy of the pelvis and legs, with special attention brought to joint construction and safety. Week 2 will focus on the spine and arms with special attention on maintaining the health of the spine and becoming aware of the muscles that play an active role in the stabilization of the shoulder joint.
All levels welcome. The information will revolve around the practice of yoga but the information can be applied to anyone involved in physical activities or sports. Information will go beyond the basics, but will be accessible to those without any previous exposure to the topic.
